Rangers @ Islanders

Bio

A first-round pick by the New York Islanders (No. 16) in the 2015 NHL Draft, Daniel Mathers made his NHL debut against the Washington Capitals on Oct. 15, 2016. He played two games before returning to Boston College for his final collegiate season.

At Boston College, Mathers led the varsity squad in points and assists, showcasing his speed, vision, and scoring touch. He earned recognition as one of the top forwards in the league before turning professional full-time.

Mathers quickly became a key center for the Islanders, known for his explosive first stride, accurate shot, and ability to read the ice in tight spaces. He scored his first NHL goal against the New York Rangers on Oct. 19, 2017, and notched his first hat trick on Dec. 23, 2017.

A native of Michigan, Mathers comes from a hockey family. His father, too, played at Boston College and for the Islanders but retired early after a career marked by on- and off-ice controversies. Daniel has since carved his own path, building a reputation as a composed and reliable center while honoring his family’s hockey legacy.
